Poison Ivy redesign.
As with Wonder Woman, I’m trying to eradicate the absolutely asinine ‘bathing suit’ costume Poison Ivy has been shackled with for 47 years.  Obviously I get that there’s that temptress quality to her character, but for too long that’s been cited as an excuse to further fetishize her appearance (the Arkham games being really guilty of this).  Ivy should look like Klimt or Aubrey Beardsley designed her - she should look earthy and timeless, and yes have a sensual look, but one that’s subtle and most importantly doesn’t undermine a threatening quality she NEEDS to posses.  She’s poison.

“Compare me to Batman?!  I’ve got more style, more brains!  I’m certainly a better dresser!”

Did some style variations for my own reference, partially because I’m tired of seeing grungy face-off Joker, but also because I believe he’s somebody who you would never see wear the same exact ensemble twice.  The clothes make the man.

Some Joker sketchbook fun.  Bringin’ back dat hat.  And a face that’s actually attached.

I thought it might be a good idea to put all of my Batman-inspired animations (to date) in one post, to quell any confusion as to their origins.

I’d like to thank all the wonderful people who have enjoyed these animations over the past 7 months.  Each of these take so much work and planning to create, and I really try hard to bring people something of quality and consideration.  There are a few things though I wish to clarify about them though:

  • These are all my own work, with everything first drawn and animated by hand in ink, then scanned in and colored in Photoshop.  Various 3d elements are also modeled and rendered by me in trueSpace (an ancient 3d program, but really intuitive for me and great for this type of work), and then finished up in AfterEffects.
  • They are not part of a larger work; each are stand-alone animated illustrations, though I’d love to one day make something as involved and wonderful as Otaking77077’s INCREDIBLE Star Wars animation.  If you don’t know it, watch it NOW…it’s a huge huge inspiration to me.
  • I do plan on making more, but I am a full-time illustrator, so I only get to do these on my free time, which along with how much work they require is why there are only a few right now.  But definitely hope to make more (especially if DC/WB ever were to ask for them…hint hint)

I don’t mean to sound petty or pedantic…just meant to address some FAQ’s I get.

Anyway, again, thanks to anyone and everyone who ever stops by and takes a look at these…I make them for us all to enjoy  :)
