If you come across today’s New York Times, take a look in the Letters section and you’ll find an illustration by me about the U.S.’s recent involvement with the Syrian civil war.  Special thanks to my wonderful art director Alexandra Zsigmond for a great assignment!

Barbara Gordon/Batgirl Redesign, Part I: “Year 1”So this is a bit of an update and further fleshing-out of a design I made for Barbara a while back.  Her initial Batgirl outfit would be much more DIY, but also have a degree of serious menace to it.  It all starts out from jeans and a sweatshirt; simple, sturdy, and logical. There’s a lack of uniformity in her color pallet because of all the various things that comprise it.  Being a cop’s daughter, her own utility belt would be created from police issue stock. I also thought it would be neat if she had a sling messenger bag that would be concealed underneath her cape, as her tech isn’t official Bat-issued and is thus not as miniaturized. Her cowl I imagined might be a converted knockoff “Bat-Man” masks that tourists buy at Gotham City gift shops, cut up and reshaped to fit her nicely and be completely unique. I didn’t want to give her a logo in the classic sense, and figured a button tacked onto the sling-bag’s strap would be perfect (for now…).Still more to come, I’m going to touch on Barbara’s look throughout her career, so stay tuned! Also, I put together a “Babs” Spotify playlist of stuff I thought she’d be into to get into the right mindset to work on her designs.  Figured having a predisposition for working with computers, she’d be into more electronic music (for the most part).  Anyway, hope you enjoy!

PRATTMAN
I was cleaning up my folders today and came across this sketch I had done last year and unfortunately forgot about.  This here is Chris Pratt as Batman; I have this idea that the next iteration of Batman in live-action media should be a modern take on what they did with him in the 60’s with Adam West.  Call me crazy, call this a bad idea, well…YOU’RE WRONG.  Something like this would be absolutely wonderful to cleanse the palette after the Nolan trilogy’s bleak seriousness (which don’t get me wrong, I staunchly believe that tone is much closer to what a definitive Batman story should be like - just look at my other Bat-work).  A modern camp-comedy version though(which would actually be marketed as such, so it wouldn’t be misinterpreted as being psychotically bad like the Schumacher movies were) would be perfect because by poking fun at the Nolan movies and ESPECIALLY the comics as of late would in the long run be essential to distilling a finer product later on when another serious “definitive”-style live action Batman installment is attempted.
TL;DR Chris Pratt sketch for a modern Adam West-style Batman adaptation.  Just pretend you don’t love the idea.

*also, slightly off-topic, I desperately want a Batman ‘66 video game on the level of Arkham City, and it needs to be made IMMEDIATELY while Adam West is still alive to voice it.  End of Transmission.

Today’s my dad’s birthday, so I made him his own Topps-style trading card from back when he played in the mid-70’s.
And yes, I’m technically a Jr…but I beat him to the domain name lol
